Gifted chef/owner Mike Ponluang, of Coco Asian Bistro & Bar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has created an enticing eatery, with delectable Thai dishes, along with an array of melt-in-your-mouth sushi, sashmi, and specialty rolls. His expansive menu truly offers something for everyone.
Coco is an extraordinarily popular eatery and Chef Mike has engendered a loyal following, of diners, that is comprised of local residents and visitors. Since Chef Mike opened Coco Asian Bistro, in the Harbor Shops in Fort Lauderdale, in April of 2006, he has always been creating new dishes to augment the wide array of menu favorites. He is also dedicated to using the best quality ingredients, that are available on the market, including top-drawer fish, seafood, beef, and chicken; fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and spices; and housemade sauces and dressings. His passion for creating delicious, ingredient-driven dishes, has made Coco one of the most popular restaurants in Fort Lauderdale. Coco also offers a full bar, with a myriad of libations, during lunch and dinner.
Stellar dishes, from the regular menu, include coconut and banana blossom soup; chicken lettuce wraps; lobster pad Thai; lobster and pineapple fried rice; Southern Thai curry beef short ribs; steak teriyaki; tuna tacos served on top of wonton shells; whole red snapper, deep fried and tossed with a sweet chili sauce; stir-fried chicken with fresh basil sauce; gluten-free vegetable pad Thai; Volcano Pizza (mixed fish, conch, crab meat, sushi rice, and American cheese, served on top of seaweed); the Futuristic Roll, served with dry ice and blue crab salad, topped with fish eggs; and the Lobster Volcano Roll, with avocado, cucumber, cream cheese, and masago, topped with seafood Dynamite sauce. Sushi and sashimi are available by the piece or in sushi boats of various sizes.
Diners can choose to dine inside, at booths or tables in the dining room, at the sushi bar, or at the cocktail bar, or outside on the covered patio. The latter is filled with comfy seating, plenty of greenery, a water feature, and a fire wall. The restaurant is warm and inviting and the enticing ambiance is enhanced by inventive lighting fixtures, tables dressed with white cloths and votive candles, and warm colored walls. Attentive servers also make customers feel welcome and cared for, to ensure that every meal at Coco is a memorable dining experience.
Keyboardist Rich Hurt and singer Babylyn entertain diners during dinner, from 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., on Friday and Saturday evenings--dancing is encouraged.
